Butterworth lad Thor Chuan Leong created an upset, beating national pool player Ibrahim Amir 3-0 in the XZ Tour Grand Final at the XZ Club yesterday.
And national junior champion Chuan Leong did it with style by potting a high break of 100 points in the third frame of the match.
"I was playing well and the high break was an added bonus," said Chuan Leong.
"However, I hope to maintain my form as I meet Lai Chee Wei in the next match," the youngster added.
It will be more of a redemption meeting between Chuan Leong and Chee Wei as both players met in the ninth round with a result favouring the latter.
It was a joyous day for Ibrahim's fellow pool mate Patrick Ooi as he had an easy time beating Chooi Yew Wah 3-0.
Patrick, who was part of the Manila Games squad considered himself lucky playing against a nervous Yew Wah.
"Yew Wah fumbled a couple of crucial shots. He even led in the second frame but failed to upkeep his play due to several bad calls,"
Patrick said.
Another crowd favourite Lee Hwa Meng was forced to give way to Ivan Lau after losing 3-1, crediting the latter for his outstanding performance in his game yesterday.
"Ivan was playing superb snooker today (yesterday). I clearly need to pick up my game to book a berth in the knock out stages," added Hwa Meng.
The inaugural meet continue today. Matches commence from 2.00pm onwards. Admission is free. |
