IT was an 'angpow' Patrick Ooi would cherish lifelong.
Hardly two more weeks before the Year of the Dog kicks in, the national pool player picked up his red packet- RM 6000- after beating former national billiards player Elvin Lean in the XZ Tour Grand Final held at the XZ Club.
Playing in front of the Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation
(MSBF) president Prof WY Chin and several other officials, Patrick was the clear winner, defeating Elvin 5-1 in the almost three hour match.
Elvin however was not too dissapointed over his win. He walked home RM 3000 richer.
"It was a good experience for me and my skills in billiard really helped me to reach this far," said Elvin.
However, the main highlight of the night was Prof Chin's announcement of introducing a ranking system in the next XZ season.
"It in a bid to get more players who are capable, a merit system will be introduced whereby points will be awarded after every leg from both the XZ Tour and other local tournaments," said Prof Chin during his speech prior to the award presentation ceremony.
Snooker enthusiasts will also experience high leveled snooker when the XZ hits major towns as there is an indication of taking the series to several new spots including the Borneo Island and the east coast states.
The second series is expected to commence early April while the XZ Pool Grand Final is scheduled in March.
MSBF and XZ would like to wish all snooker enthusiasts 'Gong Xi Fatt Chai'!!!!
