JOHOR BAHARU, July 31 (Bernama) -- Moh Keen Ho has done Malaysian snooker proud with a final flourish in the den of South East Asia's snooker hotbed.
The 20-year old made it to the final of the Thailand Cup, a tournament which features the best of Thailand's snooker talent, including their most famous son, James Watana, which was held in Siuphanbur, an hour's drive from Bangkok over the weekend.
Enroute to the final, Keen Ho, the 2005 Asian Junior champion, had beaten the Thai veteran, and a former World Amateur champion Praput Chaithanasakun 4-1 in the last eight and then collected his biggest scalp in Watana, who was once ranked No 3 in the professional circuit, 4-2 in the semi-finals.
But the Penang-born Moh, bronze medallist at the Manila Sea Games in the snooker singles, finally met his match in the final where he lost to Supoj Saenla 1-4 in the final and had to be contented with the RM5,000 prize money.
A total of 64 players took part plus five additional wild cards -- Hong Kong's Chan Kwok Ming, China's No 2 Qing Long, Singapore champion Keith Ee, Watana and Keen Ho.
"We have to salute Keen Ho for his achievement in Bangkok. It's not easy playing the Thais, especially in their homeground. Say whatever you want but to beat Watana is and never going to be easy. I hope he (Moh) will continue to improve and take Malaysian snooker to greater heights," said Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation deputy president Raymond Lim.
Keen Ho had also won the Thai Invitational Trophy in Bangkok in May with a 5-2 win over Thailand's Anun Teranun in May to collect RM10,000.
